Samantha Moonley has lived her life knowing that she is an android. Despite this, she longs to fit in with the rest of humankind and be able to feel the things they feel. Wandering from place to place her whole life, she's now been picked up by Moose, who has a habit of gathering hitchhikers on his long drives across the country. Also along for the ride is Mac, who carries a jar with a goldfish that frequently speaks to him. In her quest to feel like humans do, Samm tries every method she can think of to connect to Moose and Mac. Some of her acts drive people away, and others take things to a dangerous level. Samm learns once and for all if she truly is doomed to live a life as an unfeeling android, and whether or not this world has a place for her in it.
